Brunei Content Festival 2022

Friday, 10 June, 2022 - The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) organized the Brunei Content Festival Awards Night 2022, held for the first time in conjunction with the Digital Technology Week, Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2022. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, and the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad.

Also in attendance were Ir. Haji Muhammad Nazri bin Hj Muhammad Yusuf, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications; Dyg Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; and Ir. Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, Chief Executive of AITI.

The event was also graced by Deputy Permanent Secretaries and senior officers from the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, as well as representatives from higher education institutions, the local broadcasting industry, and participants of the Brunei Content Festival 2022, consisting of local video production companies, freelancers, and content creators. The ceremony was held at Serambi Suluh Hall, Tarindak d’Seni, Bandar Seri Begawan.

The Brunei Content Festival 2022 Awards is a competition platform that recognizes local content creators, producers, directors, filmmakers, and other creative professionals in the broadcasting sector. This effort by AITI aims to stimulate innovation and creativity in content creation, as well as encourage the production of high-quality content with commercial potential for broadcast on television or Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms.

The Brunei Content Festival 2022 competition had two categories: the Industry Category and the Open Category. The Open Category featured four awards: Best Social Media Content, Best Short Film, Best Music Video, and Best Short Film from Higher Education Institutions. The Industry Category featured four awards: Best Drama, Best Comedy, Best Horror, and Best Performance Advertisement.

In addition, seven Jury Awards were contested. A total of seventy-two (72) entries were received, and the judging process was carried out by an experienced panel of judges from the broadcasting industry and higher education institutions.

The winners of the Brunei Content Festival 2022 competition are as follows:

Industry Category:

  1. Best Advertisement: Mr Brown Brazil Coffee – Evoke Craftsman
  2. Best Comedy: Operation Hantu – Filterworks Productions
  3. Best Drama: Kitani – New Wave Films
  4. Best Horror: ‘I’ Love you – AMT Production

Open Category:

  1. Best Music Video: Khilaf – Faizul Razali
  2. Best Short Film: Jaguh – Md Aa’qiil Ahmad
  3. Best Short Film from Higher Education Institutions: Not Toaster – Rahim Sofri
  4. Best Bruneian Identity: Aku Bersyukur – Hanidi Hj Mahmud

Jury Awards:

  1. Best Editing: Not Famous – Drifting – Adam Groves
  2. Best Concept: Saya Sepasang Kasut – Afiq Julaihi
  3. Best Lighting: Nada Papa – Hasrul Aizan
  4. Best Direction: The Poet – Envoy Films
  5. Best Public Service Announcement / Social Media: Recycling Can Save Lives – Greendepot
  6. Best Cinematography: Menyendiri – Arifuddin Zainal
  7. Best Performance: Kawan – Dk Aida Pg Safri

Winners in the Industry and Open Categories each received a cash prize of BND 2,000, while Jury Award winners received BND 500, along with a trophy and a certificate of appreciation.

The Brunei Content Festival 2022 was organized with support from RTBGo and Progresif Media. AITI hopes that the platform provided by the Brunei Content Festival will encourage local content creators to produce more high-quality content capable of competing internationally and penetrating regional and global markets.

Objectives:

  1. Promote the development and manufacture of high-quality and potentially commercial content that can be distributed and broadcast on television platforms or Over-the-Top (OTT) services
  2. Collaborate with relevant agencies in spurring the growth of the local broadcasting and multimedia industry
